University of Maragheh Is Venue For 28th Iranian Algebra Seminar

This morning, on July 9th , the 28th Iranian Algebra Seminar got underway at  University of Maragheh with the goal of introducing the most recent scientific findings in the field of algebra and related applied sciences to a younger audience of academics.

According to the report of public relations of University of Maragheh, this conference is held in collaboration with University of Maragheh and the Iranian Mathematical Society, and a number of professors, pioneers, and researchers in the field of algebra are present at this scientific event.

At the opening ceremony of the 28th Iranian Algebra Seminar, Dr. Mohammad Zadshakoyan, the president of  University of Maragheh, stated: "We are grateful for the presence at  University of Maragheh of researchers and scientists in the field of algebra as well as administrators from universities and research centers around the nation. We are appreciative that Distinguished professors are visiting  University of Maragheh today to discuss their research accomplishments and further the field of algebra."

He went on to thank the scientific committee members of the 28th Iranian Algebra Seminar  for their hard work and dedication, particularly Professors Rahim Zare Nehandi and Mohammad Mehdi Ebrahimi, who showed up to the seminar in spite of their hectic schedules. After expressing gratitude to the executive committee members and local authorities, he thanked them and concluded by wishing our friends will always remember these two days as pleasant times spent in the city of Maragheh and the University of Maragheh.

Dr. Leila Shahbaz, a member of the academic staff of the mathematics department of the University of Maragheh and the executive director of the 28th Iran Algebra Seminar, said: "This national seminar includes various sections such as lectures, educational workshops, expert roundtable meetings, and visits to historical sites in Maraghe.
She pointed to the topics of this seminar and said: Comprehensive algebra, Category Theory, ordered algebraic structures, commutative and noncommutative algebra, Group Theory, computational algebra and algebraic combinations, algebraic geometry and Algebraic Number Theory, Lie algebra, linear algebra and their applications. The theory of Algebraic Codes and math education (centered on algebraic subjects) are among the topics discussed in this scientific event.

Professor Rahim Zare Nahandi, a retired professor from Tehran University, read the tribute to Professor Herzog.
“Professor Herzog has held a special place in our country’s algebra community, especially among experts in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry,” he said. “He supervised the doctoral dissertations of several Iranian students from our universities, who spent their research sabbaticals with him at the University of Essen in Germany. Professor Herzog traveled to various cities in Iran several times and attended dissertation defenses or seminars on algebra and commutative algebra.”
He added, “Jürgen Herzog had accepted the invitation of the scientific committee to be a keynote speaker at the 28th Algebra Seminar, but unfortunately, he passed away from a heart condition on April 24, 2024.”
Professor Zare Nahandi then provided a detailed account of Herzog’s career and scientific contributions and invited enthusiasts to read Dr. Siamak Yasemi’s interesting article in the latest issue of the Iranian Mathematical Society newsletter.
The commemoration of two veteran algebra professors, Professor Mohammad Mehdi Ebrahimi and Professor Rahim Zare Nahandi, as well as the unveiling, stamping, and signing of the memorial board for the Algebra Seminar, took place at the end of the opening ceremony, attended by professors and officials.
